Nicola Formichetti is among the most prolific and widely accomplished creatives of his generation. An award-winning fashion designer, creative director, stylist, and editor, he is responsible for some of the most unforgettable cultural flashpoints of the 21st century—including Lady Gaga’s legendary “meat dress” and a series of boundary-pushing visual campaigns that redefined pop culture.
In 2025, Nicola was appointed Global Creative Director of M·A·C Cosmetics, one of the most iconic and influential beauty brands on the planet. In this role, he is steering the brand into a bold new future—reimagining M·A·C’s heritage of artistry, inclusivity, and innovation for a new generation.
Previously, Nicola held top creative leadership positions at Mugler, Diesel, Uniqlo, and Haus of Gaga. He has imagined transformative collaborations with Dom Pérignon, Nike, Barneys, Haus Labs, and M·A·C Cosmetics, while also serving as Editor-in-Chief and Fashion Director at Dazed & Confused, V Magazine, and Vogue Hommes Japan. He is the creator of Nicopanda, a gender-neutral high-concept streetwear brand modeled after his own image.
Nicola’s celebrity collaborations read like a cultural hall of fame—working with Lady Gaga, Nicole Kidman, Bad Bunny, JLo, Gwen Stefani, Charli XCX, Troye Sivan, Kim Petras, and many more. His current creative obsession lies in the fast-evolving world of Korean culture, where he is collaborating with K-pop groups such as Enhypen and diving deep into the new frontiers of fashion and beauty.
Underpinning all of Nicola’s work is his unique perspective shaped by his Japanese-Italian upbringing and his instinctive connection to youth, street, and global culture. He is a pioneer of using emerging platforms and technologies to tell stories and connect with audiences, most recently joining SYKY, a community-driven platform at the intersection of luxury fashion and technology.
Nicola’s work has been recognized with international accolades, including the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator of the Year by the British Fashion Council, three Hermes Awards, a Clio, and the Elle Style Award for Fashion Innovator. Twice named to Business of Fashion’s BoF 500, he has also been honored for his contributions to the LGBTQIA+ community, including recognition as a 2018 “Queero” by Them and an Emery Award by the Hetrick-Martin Institute.
Nicola is currently based in New York City, channeling his energy into reshaping the future of beauty, fashion, and culture.
